How to take care of Freddy products?

Washing and caring for different garments can be a challenge. How many times have you pulled a shrunken wool sweater or your favorite item completely misshapen out of the washing machine?
To ensure long life for Freddy garments and avoid unpleasant surprises, it’s essential to understand the symbols always found on our labels. These symbols provide crucial guidance for maintaining your clothes in good condition and preventing damage caused by improper care.

Overview of washing and fabric care symbols

Our clothing labels usually display five standard images that indicate how to wash, dry, iron, and treat garments. These symbols are important not only for delicate items like silk and wool, but also for colored clothing, cotton, or synthetic materials. Knowing what they mean is the first step to avoiding damage to your clothes and keeping them in good shape for longer.

Explanation of symbols

Basic symbols

The basic symbols on our labels provide essential information for garment care:

  1. indicates water washing.
  2. represents dry cleaning.
  3. signals bleaching.
  4. refers to drying.

These symbols are key to understanding how to treat each specific garment. Their presence on labels ensures that you can follow the correct instructions, regardless of language, and preserve the quality of your clothes.

Simboli Lavaggio in acqua

Water washing

Water washing symbols provide specific instructions on how to treat garments during the wash. The bacinella is one of the most common symbols and indicates whether a garment can be washed in water and at what temperature:

  1. do not wash in water.
  2. hand or machine washable.
  3. gentle cycle with low-temperature rinse and short spin.
  4. hand wash only, regular rinse, and gentle spin.
  5. machine wash at the maximum temperature indicated by the number.

If there’s one line under the bacinella, use a gentle cycle; two lines indicate an extra delicate program, ideal for wool and silk.

Simboli Lavaggio a secco

Dry cleaning

Dry cleaning is a fabric cleaning method that doesn’t use water but specific chemical solvents. It’s often used for delicate garments that might be damaged by water washing. This type of care is indicated by symbols showing whether a garment can be professionally treated.

  1. do not dry clean.
  2. dry clean with all types of solvent.
  3. dry clean with caution due to risk of shrinkage.
  4. indicates which solvents can be used.

If your garment’s label includes one of these symbols, it’s best to take it to a dry cleaner. The letters inside the circle specify the solvents allowed during dry cleaning.

Simboli Candeggio

Bleaching

Bleaching refers to the use of chemical agents to whiten fabrics and remove stains. It’s important to know whether a garment can be bleached to avoid damage.

  1. do not bleach.
  2. bleach with any product.
  3. bleach with chlorine-based products.

Keep in mind that bleach is present in almost all powdered detergents and helps remove stains and halos from light-colored garments. However, not all Freddy clothes can be treated with bleach or similar agents, so always check the label instructions and use suitable detergents.

Simboli Asciugatura

Drying

Drying is represented by symbols indicating how to properly dry your garments. Understanding these symbols is crucial to avoid issues like shrinkage or garment deformation:

  1. tumble dry allowed.
  2. dry on delicate setting.
  3. dry on normal setting.
  4. do not tumble dry.

Before putting Freddy clothes in the dryer, pay attention to the symbols. A circle inside a square means the item is tumble dry-safe, while a crossed-out circle means air-dry only. Check the number of dots inside the circle to set the right temperature and protect the fabrics.

Simboli Stiratura

Ironing

Ironing symbols provide instructions on how to iron garments safely, avoiding damage from excessive heat.

  1. ironing allowed.
  2. iron at a maximum temperature of 110°C, preferably without steam.
  3. iron at a maximum temperature of 150°C.
  4. iron at a maximum temperature of 200°C.
  5. do not iron.

The iron symbol is intuitive and easy to recognize. The number of dots on the iron indicates the maximum allowable temperature. Cotton and linen can withstand higher heat, while synthetic fibers and blends (often used in our garments) require lower temperatures. Ironing according to these guidelines helps preserve the look and shape of your clothes.

Understanding clothing label symbols is essential for preserving garment quality and longevity. Each symbol gives precise instructions on how to treat the fabric, reducing the risk of damage during washing, drying, and ironing. Following these guidelines helps keep your clothes in excellent condition, avoiding unpleasant surprises and extending the life of your favorite garments.
